Fishing for the Mekong Giant Catfish and the Siamese Giant Carp
Bungsam lan is known for the Enormous size of the fish in its waters. Two of the worlds largest species can be found here , the Mekong Giant Catfish and the Arapaima or Pirarucu. If that isnt enough the largest Carp species in the world lives there, the Siamese Giant Carp and all three of these giants are waiting to be caught. They can and do grow to well over 100kg (220lbs)in this lake.
This legendary lake is where dreams come true, reels explode, rods are snapped and all the but fittest go home exhausted after an action packed day with aching arms and a lot of photos.
The Siamese Giant carp is the biggest of the Carp family and grows to well over 100kg (220lbs). If you are lucky and skilful enough you could well land one. Even a specimen half that size will dwarf any common carp most anglers will have ever come across. Lure Fishing/Snakehead trip at Srinakarin
We use Jean-Francois Helias to provide the complete fishing package for Snakehead at Srinakarin Reservoir . If you are a lure fanatic and just adore sight fishing, then believe us this tour is definitely for you.
Srinakarin Reservoir is a beautiful and remote reservoir at around 85 kilometres long, set in a national park. Fishing is from small speed boats that have the added advantage of being able to cover large areas quicker. The action is fast and furious and for those who love sight fishing there is really nothing else to compare it with. It’s not for the faint-hearted, as a ball of fry can be chased for an hour or more in sweltering heat, as the excitement takes over.

The 85km valley where three rivers meet was dammed up and flooded in the 1980s. It is totally surreal jetting over forests completely submerged in water, seeing the treetops from the boat. Srinakarin Reservoir is reached by a six hour drive in air conditioned mini bus. You will visit the famous Bridge on the River Kwai site, where a stop is made on the way to the lake. Snakehead is an elusive predator which can be infuriatingly difficult to catch; it is hard fighting and endlessly challenging. There are three main species in the reservoir, the Giant Snakehead, the Striped Snakehead and the rare Cobra Snakehead.

Also targeted at Srinakarin Reservoir are Jungle Perch, these look like a cross between a Mahseer and a Chub, they fight like hell, and a good specimen weighs a couple of pounds. These are fished with lures, usually spoons, and can often be found hanging around near rock walls, which have the added advantage of offering welcome shade.
At Srinakarin Reservoir you stay at a small fishing village resort which consists of a collection of simple bungalows floating on pontoons made of silky smooth teak, lovely to walk on in bare feet. In windy weather, the pontoons may be moved around during the day into more comfortable locations, and it’s possible to come home every night to find your pontoon has disappeared over to the other side of the village. You will have a simple, clean room with electric light and a floor fan, a foam mattress with sheets and pillows, and an adjoining washroom come toilet, with cold water.
The package below is for anglers who wish to fish at the same time for all catfish species and for the Siamese giant carp and also to experience the fantastic range of species which can be targeted on bait and Lures. However we can tailor make any itinerary and you can pick and choose exactly which type of fishing you would like to and for how long .
