The catfish in the River Ebro are well established. The lower Ebro contains a large head of good catfish, carp, Zander and many other species. Whilst the catfishing can be excellent when the right river conditions prevail, the larger fish are showing more frequently each year, moving downstream from the prolific areas above the dams. Feeding on the vast shoals of mullet on the lower reaches. A 150lb fish is a realistic target for the specimen hunter, the magical 200 pounder cannot be too far away.

Derek is the resident fishing guide based at Alfacs Bay. He first visited the area in 1995 and for the next 5 years was a regular visitor to the Ebro, spending up to 3 months a year exploring the lower river, catfishing from the bank.

Drawing on his wealth of experience in small boats (ex trawlerman and inshore fisherman) Derek purchased his boat and moved to Spain in early 2001. His aim was to allow the average angler affordable boat trips to catch these magnificent fighting beasts!!!!

Pleasure fishing on the Ebro can be very productive and great fun. Carp in the 4 to 15lb range are the target fish, with a mixture of roach, crucians and mullet making up the weights.
