May is one of the slower months of the year for visitors here in Quepos and whilst the huge Sailfish numbers have moved away from our coast there is some fantastic fishing to be had with lots of variety. The stories of the month were the excellent Yellow Fin Tuna fishing that we had and also the fantastic Inshore fishing with lots of different species being caught by the inshore boats along the coastline and near the Rivermouths of Parrita, Naranjo, Savegre and Dominical. We caught Yellow Fin Tuna up to 75lb this month and had 100-200lb fish jumping all around the boat some days. One HUGE yellowfin tried to eat a 5 pounder that we were reeling in one day!! We caught Roosterfish up to 35lb, Snook to 20lb. There was a 53lb Snook caught from the Parrita rivermouth this month demonstrating the world class fishing that we have! Blue Fin Travellys, Jacks, Mackerel, Red Snappers, Cubera Snappers, Corvinas (Sea Bass), Triple Tails and Groupers all being caught inshore. Lots of reports of Marlin all up our Pacific Coast, we didnt land any in May but hopefully June will be a different story!
We did 7 trips in May aboard the 31′ GOOD DAY and our catch summary as follows:
2 May – 3 Roosterfish, 1 Snook, 1 Jack, 1 Big eyed Jack, 4 Needlefish
8 May – 15 Jacks, 2 Mackerel, 2 Barracuda, 1 Queenfish
13 May – 10 Yellow Fin Tuna up to 36lb
14 May – Slow day. Raised 2 Sailfish, none landed 1

20 May – 4 Yellow Fin Tuna, all 35-40lb
31 May – Caught 10 Bonitos, missed 4 Wahoo, 1 Mahi & 2 Sailfish
Looking forward to more great fishing in June!!
