Starting off at the 95 spot, then moving closer
to Cabo between 13 and 22 miles off of Cerro Blanco, (Land’s
End), some boats went to Punta Gorda, Chileno 8 miles out,
Palmilla 8 miles out, 11.50 spot, finishing up the week off
of San Jose as the water cooled close to Cabo
March 24th to March 30th, 2006

some exceptionally windy days on the Pacific. Cortez side
was much calmer, with some whitecaps in the late afternoon
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 69 - 70 F.
BEST LURES: Live bait.
BILLFISH
Striped marlin was the top sportfish in Cabo this
week, with seventy-nine percent of charters catching from
one to five fish in the 120 to 180 lb class. This March overall
has been a good month. Usually when we think of March it brings
to mind windy weather and fish that are disinterested in the
bait offered, however this year the striped marlin bite remained
quite consistent. On March 25th, Ni Modo fished 20 miles straight
out from Cabo and was able to release four striped marlin
for Anthony Zouza and Timur Tecime from California. Next day
out this same boat scored again, this time releasing five
stripers for a group from Illinois, a couple of days later,
this crew again worked hard to put the anglers aboard (Ian
Monsfield, Todd Lewis from Oregon) on five marlin this time
off of Cabo Real. Tracy Ann had five releases on March 26th,
for Duane Hinkler, Brian Delay and Dan Moore, all from Florida
directly off of Lands End. We had several boats with quadruple
marlin days including Karina, Yahoo and Rebecca. We were surprised
that the fishing moved back towards Cabo, as at this time
of year we expect it to go the other way, closer to the east
cape, however as we close this report, boats are beginning
to fish the San Jose area again. Our overall catch success
rate for all species combined was eighty-four percent. Pisces
anglers caught a total of 128 striped marlin of which 125
were released.
OTHER SPECIES:
Well this section will be short; there was hardly
any smaller game this week, or if there was boats were in
the wrong place. We had just four boats that caught dorado,
with each catch a single fish in the 20 to 40 lb class. Yellowfin
tuna was even slower, despite the boats working a school off
of twenty-two miles off of Land’s End. The only boat
that had success for us was Rebecca who landed seven fish
between 15 and 40 lbs as well as releasing a striped marlin,
for Mike Ptazsnicz from St. Louis, Mi.Tracy Ann released a
50 lb mako shark, the only one of the week. Inshore there
was a new influx of sierra and a few jacks.
