Kenya 3RD JULY 2011

The off season is nearly over. Hotels are re-opening, Malindi is bustling once again and more fish are appearing. What rain we had has come to an end and the weather is perfect at the moment with mild clear days and slightly cooler nights. The wind is stronger than it was in May but not strong enough to make the seas unpleasant.

On the fishing side we managed to pick up a few days in June which was good. Eclare went back into the water at the beginning of the month and she did her first day on the 12th. Snowgoose came out at the same time and she has joined Neptune and Tina on the slip way. Neptune’s new engines are about to be installed and we hope that by the end of July she will be ready. As well as new engines Neptune has had a complete new paint job. Snowgoose will start fishing around the 20th July and Snark will then come out for her tarting up session.

On the whole the fishing was good in June. Unfortunately no marlin were caught but most days saw boats coming back with at least one sailfish and a mixed bag of wahoo, kingfish and tuna. Bas and Edwin Kanters fished three days in the middle of the month on Eclare and every day was action packed with sailfish and smaller game fish keeping them entertained. Snark and Eclare were both out yesterday with a group from China. They were only out on five hour trips but Snark still managed to get two sailfish and Eclare one. The fishing at this time of year is all down on the banks due to the weather. A dinghy fishing down there a few days ago lost a marlin and saw another one so hopefully they are starting to come in now. The banks is so exciting at this time of year when the black marlin move in. One can often have at least three marlin up in a day. Off course a lot depends on the bait situation as the predators are there for the food. I hear that there are a lot of kawa-kawa and frigate mackerel there at the moment. We have a few bookings this month so lets hope the fishing gets better and better.
